Was a Congolese art collector and businessman. He owned one of the most important contemporary African art collections, which includes more than 3,000 pieces.
Born in Kinshasa in 1972, Sindika was brought up in Belgium and France by parents Augustin Dokolo, a bank owner, millionaire, and collector of African arts, and his Danish wife Hanne Kruse. Sindika graduated from the Lycée Saint-Louis-de-Gonzague in Paris, and later studied economics, commerce and foreign languages at the Pierre and Marie Curie University.

Sindika Dokolo Foundation
The Sindika Dokolo Foundation is a cultural foundation headquartered in Luanda, Angola. It is supported by businessman Sindika Dokolo, the organization's president, and managed by its vice president, Fernando Alvim. Simon Njami the organization's consultant.
The foundation is engaged in the preservation, promotion and development of Sindika Dokolo's art collection and the Triennial of Luanda. It was the sponsor of the exhibition Check List Luanda Pop, a side project of Venice Biennale in 2007.

La Fondation Sindika Dokolo est une fondation culturelle dont le siège est à Luanda, en Angola. Collection
The collection stems from the purchase of the Hans Bogatzke's collection. Fernando Alvim is responsible for the collection and the purchase of new art works, mainly those of young artists, and videos and installations.
The art collection is made of art works with a special focus on African artists and the African diaspora, one of the few art collections based in Africa. It is defined as a contemporary African art collection by its curator, Fernando Alvim. The collection emphasizes the African identity over the nationalities of the specific artists. The works of the collection are on display at the Triennial of Luanda as well as international shows such as SD Observatorio, Africa Screams, Beyond Desire, Chéri Samba, Horizons, Voices and Looking Both Ways.

Fernando Alvim est responsable de la collecte et de l'achat de nouvelles œuvres d'art, principalement celles de jeunes artistes, ainsi que de vidéos et d'installations. Incarnation Brussels - Bozar - 2019
IncarNations is an exhibition created by the artist Kendell Geers with Sindika Dokolo. A fascinating initiative that reflects the diversity of the African artistic heritage, from an Afrocentric point of view and including the itineraries of slaves, colonialism and independence movements. As the Senegalese philosopher Souleymane Bachir Diagne stresses: "Ethnographic museums are a negation of art because they prevent the objects on display from really looking at us. Because ethnography is constituted, at its colonial origins, as a science of what is radically other, it is in its nature to fabricate strangeness, otherness, separateness". Taken from Sindika Dokolo's impressive collection, the works of African artists enter into dialogue with those of the diaspora while contemporary works will be displayed alongside classical works. Incarnations looks at African art as a living philosophical practice.
IncarNations est une exposition réalisée par l'artiste Kendel Geers avec la collectionneuse Sindika Dokolo. Une initiative fascinante qui reflète la diversité du patrimoine artistique africain, d'un point de vue afrocentrique et incluant les itinéraires des esclaves, du colonialisme et des mouvements d'indépendance. Comme le souligne le philosophe sénégalais Souleymane Bachir Diagne : « Les musées ethnographiques sont une négation de l'art parce qu'ils empêchent les objets exposés de nous regarder réellement. Parce que l'ethnographie se constitue, à ses origines coloniales, comme une science de ce qui est radicalement autre, elle est dans sa nature de fabriquer de l'étrangeté, de l'altérité, de la séparation ». Tirées de l'impressionnante collection de Sindika Dokolo, les œuvres d'artistes africains entrent en dialogue avec celles de la diaspora tandis que des œuvres contemporaines côtoient des œuvres classiques. Incarnations considère l'art africain comme une pratique philosophique vivante.
Sindika Dokolo lance le mouvement « Les congolais debout !». Une initiative qui veut permettre à chaque personne de la société civile de participer à la redéfinition d’une nouvelle ligne politique pour la République démocratique du Congo.
« Les congolais debout ! », un nom plus qu’explicite qui traduit la démarche de Sindika Dokolo. Dans la présentation de ce mouvement qui se décrit comme apolitique, on peut lire : « La République Démocratique du Congo continue de patauger dans une crise infinie et multiforme qui a plongé ses citoyens dans une misère indescriptible et dans un profond désespoir ». En effet, l’autorité du président actuel, Jospeh Kabila, est contestée depuis plusieurs années, après qu’il soit arrivé au pouvoir, succédant à son père et devant faire face à plusieurs crises. La question économique, celle du développement entre autres urgences et surtout la crise dans l’Est du pays sont autant d’enjeux que le chef de l’état peine à solutionner.
